Securing a feature by Beatport's Curation Team is one of the most effective ways to get your music noticed by DJs and fans alike. Our team of experts curates the platform with integrity, ensuring that every feature is of the highest quality and relevance to our audience.
We showcase selected new music, DJ Charts, and Streaming Playlists every Friday, highlighting them across our platforms, including our store's homepage, social media channels, and editorial platform, Beatportal.
One tip to keep in mind is that we reserve the most prominent marketing feature spaces for exclusive releases. These releases have a higher price point than non-exclusives and are highlighted with a special tag. Exclusivity means that Beatport is the only download store selling the release during the exclusivity period, which can last for 2, 4, 8 weeks, or even a lifetime. You can set up exclusivity via your distributor when delivering your release.
To pitch your music for features, make sure to keep your distributor up-to-date with your upcoming releases. Your distributor will have a dedicated label manager here at Beatport with whom they can discuss feature options, so stay in touch with them and keep producing top-quality music - you never know when you might catch our curators' ears!
Here are a few tips on what kind of information to include in your pitch to your distributor:
GOOD:
*3-5 big name DJs supporting your track (please see below for what we do NOT consider good feedback in this regard)
*Links to big name DJs playing your track.
*Magazine and blog premieres.
*Radio coverage.
*A precise marketing plan explaining when and what will be posted where, and any money to be spent is very important.
*If you’re going to post on socials, then social media reach and links to your channels.
BAD:
*DJ feedback that says “downloaded for…..” this for us is not good feedback. For us it means the person listening and downloading the music for said DJs downloaded it, and not that the actual DJ liked the track. For example, Richie Hawtin has a twitter feed which shows what tracks he actually played, now this would be good feedback.
*Social media and marketing campaigns listed “as usual”….we need more info than this.
*Sending the full promo campaign sheets, unfortunately it is too time consuming for us to read these, we need the highlights, please.
All of this will help your feature requests be stronger, but will not guarantee a feature. These are ultimately up to the genre curator.
