Very possibly, nothing. Unfortunately sometimes can do all of this perfectly and just not get picked up for support. Sometimes the genre manager just isn’t feeling it, or it might just be a particularly busy week with just too many good releases to feature. A few things to consider:
- Are you doing everything you can to share and promote your releases? This is essentially even if you do get a Hype feature. Making it into the Hype charts is one of the key benefits, and you need every sale you can get for that. Some tips:
- Beatport DJ Charts are a great way to bring extra attention to your release. Artists can include their tracks and share the chart across their socials, and they can also be pitched for featuring via your distributor.
- Pre-orders can give your release that extra boost it needs to make it into the charts (Pre-orders can be set up to 4 weeks in advance of release, and sales count towards the first week of charting). Share the pre-order link across socials, and have your artists include the pre-order in their DJ Charts for extra visibility.
- Have you considered making your release a Beatport Exclusive? Exclusives are always given priority by our curation team when considering features across the store, and you can still have your release available for streaming at the same time. Speak to your distributor for more information.
- Are you keeping up with the basics of your Beatport presence? This means:
- Making sure your artist's profiles are up to date and have artist pictures and bios.
- Keeping your label logo up to date.
- If you are a new label, remember that every feature on Beatport is decided manually by a dedicated genre expert. It can take a few solid releases to really get your label on their radar to the point you are featured regularly. Consistency is key.
- Bear in mind that accounting periods across the industry vary widely. Meaning that DSPs like Beatport account to our partners often 2-3 months behind when the sales occurred, and they in turn account to your similarly delayed. So you may not see any change in your statements from your distributor until a few months later.
- And finally, it may seem obvious but ensure your tracks are properly mixed and mastered before sending them out! You’d be surprised how many labels don’t, and it can really make the difference to the ears of a curator who listens to hundreds of tracks every day.
